The Red Raider track and field team captured eight first-place finishes as well as 28 top-three finishes last Saturday at the Dordt Invite in Sioux Center.
Sophomore sprinter Karen Hutson had an impressive day and captured first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.37 seconds. Hutson also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6 inches.
“Getting a good start was the key,” Hutson said. “Usually, if I have a fast start, the race will go well.That is always my first focus going into the 100-meter hurdles.”
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team took home first with a time of 42.87 seconds. The relay consisted of junior Jeriah Dunk, sophomore Jordan Micalef, freshman Alex Van Roekel and junior Jesse Selgeby.
Dunk also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.1 seconds.
Junior Zach Wittenberg placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.6 seconds. Sophomore Skyler Giddings came in a close second in the same race with a 1:58 split.
Sophomore Jena Krebs also had a fantastic afternoon for NW as she won the hammer throw with a toss of 40-07 feet. Krebs also placed second in the discus and third in the shot put with throws of 125-07 feet and 37-11.5 feet, respectively.
Sophomore Levi Ettleman placed first in the shot put with a toss of 49-07.25 feet and placed fourth in both the discus and hammer with throws of 140-06 and 120-03 feet, respectively.
“For me, shot put is just about going out there and relaxing in my throws,” Ettleman said. “Hitting my positions the best that I can is a key.”
Junior Matt Huseman leaped 6-09 feet to take first place in the high jump.
Senior Jordan Boekhout threw 177-01 feet in the javelin to also place first.
The Raiders will return to action in the Sioux City Relays tonight and Saturday afternoon.
