The Raider tennis team picked up an 8-1 conference win over host Midland on Monday. NW improved their conference record to 2-1, and 4-7 overall.
Sophomore Frankie Eszes, the reigning GPAC Player of the Year, won her sixth singles match of the year and improved her record to 6-5, which leads the team. The Raiders won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches.
“The weather was a bit chilly but I thought we played well,” Eszes said. “There have been some matches where I have not played my best but I can only learn from it.”
Sophomores Jami Koens and Hannah Stark each picked up a singles victory. Freshman Amanda Bueltel dropped only one game to her opponent and picked up her fifth singles win of the season. Junior Terry Odera also won her singles match.
On Saturday, NW fell to visiting Nebraska Wesleyan 7-2. Eszes and Odera picked up wins in the singles. All three doubles were swept by Nebraska Wesleyan.
Four out of the five remaining matches for NW are important GPAC matchups.
“We can be more intentional with our strategies in practice and in matches,” Eszes said. “Treating practice with a match mind set will help us prepare for all types of competition in the rest of our conference play.”
The women’s tennis match scheduled for tonight in Orange City against Hastings will be played in Fremont, Neb,. at 2 p.m.
